What’s the best time to visit Jervis Bay?
There’s no doubt, the resident pods of Dolphins are a year-round delight, as is the spectacular SCUBA diving which means it’s never a ‘bad’ time to visit Jervis Bay but, depending on what you’re looking for, it may not be the ‘best’.
It’s a very personal question to answer.
There’s no doubt that Jervis Bay has become the ‘go-to’ destination for many Sydneysiders, Canberrans and overseas visitors in the last decade. This is due to a blend of hard work by the tourism team at Shoalhaven City Council and the now well-publicized claim that Hyams Beach has the whitest sand in the world.
Note: We’re not sure how that claim started but, the sand at many beaches here in Jervis Bay is indeed wonderfully white!
Whilst Christmas has traditionally been the most popular time to visit this jewel of the Saphire Coast, that does not mean it’s the ‘best time’…
How have we arrived at that conclusion?
The busiest times are naturally school holidays. The town is buzzing over the Australian summer holidays (inc. Christmas). There are seasonal considerations in gems such as Jervis Bay too e.g. the migrating Whales, water temperature, big sporting events such as Big Husky Triathlon / The Bay Games / Long Course Weekend, etc.
See what we mean, it’s personal…
